Takes all kinds to make a species.
Takes just a thought to create a race.
Takes all kinds to make a gender.
Takes but a thought to create out-of-place.
Out of place creates paranoia,
& that’s all I feel our leaders need
to drive a good sized wedge between us,
taking up all the space in-between.
Clear I see the hope for one world.
Blinded rage makes the atom bomb:
it’s always up to us, can’t get out of it,
figure out whether we’re right or wrong.
Now our species ain’t doing well:
can’t see the forest or the trees.
Endless greed & fear of each other
could be what brings us to our knees.
Hear this piece performed (from the CD, Drunken Dumbshow):
Sit on the corner
Do what you wanna
Clear blue sky
Get you high
Smile at your neighbor
Laugh at your labor
Clear blue sky
Get you high
Sun go down and the
Moon come up and you
Sing, sing till the
Sun come up again
Light up the sky
And you still high
No time to sleep
Until the dawn
In Venlo town
Wake up and
Sit on the corner . . .
* Venlo, a city in the Netherlands, was a happy stop along a European
tour Hal joined some years ago with the Tumbleweed Dance
Collective.
